The Icelandic Pantry, Borough Market


“They say that every time you experience a new taste you add a year to your life.”


I’m not sure who “they” are, but if it’s true then last night I added 14 years to my life. So I am inclined to agree with them. Whoever they are.

Last night I was lucky enough to be invited to a reception at The Icelandic Pantry at Borough Market. This is a special, one-off event giving Icelandic farmers, fisherman and other small-scale producers a chance to present their goods to the UK public at Borough Market. They will be there for one more day (Saturday, 10th October) so do pop down while you have the chance.

Ones to watch

On 1st July I was invited by Angelica Malin of About Time Magazine to a networking dinner for bloggers at Café Rouge in Holborn. Lucky me! Café Rouge's marketing team weren't so lucky. The day they had chosen to preview the Christmas menu was one of the hottest of the year so far. Fortunately, we were just trying the starters, which were tapas-style dishes designed for sharing and thankfully quite light.

The event was a great opportunity to meet other people who love food and I especially like a couple of the blogs I discovered via the ladies behind them. 

The Little Library Café is my new favourite. It is the most imaginative concept for a food blog that I have come across in a while. Kate makes and bakes fiction

Yelp Blog School

Micro pigs, selfie stick injuries and Mary Berry versus Fanny Cradock. Hot topics at the blogger’s brunch hosted by Yelp London and About Time Magazine  on 7th March at The Newman Tavern.

Head hostess with the mostess, Angelica Malin, Editor-in-Chief at About Time Magazine, and her sister, Alicia, brought together 30 of their favourite London food bloggers, added 5 experts on all things digital, mixed with some speed networking, a sprinkling of advice and rounded up with a lovely brunch. What better way to spend a sunny Saturday morning?

The height of good taste

One word: surreal.

This time yesterday I was suspended from a crane quaffing white wine waiting for a Michelin-starred three-course meal cooked by this guy:

I was invited to attend London in the Sky by the good people at Speyside Glenlivet. They were also responsible for keeping me sober - important at this dizzying height. (I am a klutz and a dropped knife, fork or glass is a regular occurrence when I dine with wine; much more dramatic at 100 feet!)

Truck Stop

A couple of weeks ago I went to Truck Stop with my Mum and a friend, Shaun. It is a summer street food event at Canary Wharf organised by Street Feast and Tweat Up to bring together “over 20 of the UK’s best food trucks”. (There were probably 21, and of varying quality, but who’s counting?)

The pick of the bunch appeared to be the kimchi burgers from Kimchi Cult, judging by the line which at peak hour snaked all the way across the site and back again. I didn’t try them; after an hour wait you are only going to be disappointed.

We arrived early, which was lucky. It was massively oversubscribed so lines got out of control from about 7pm. Fortunately we had already started on the trucks we were most interested in.
